General Operating Support
The General Operating Support ("GOS") program is designed to strengthen Connecticut’s arts infrastructure by offering funding to arts organizations that have consistently provided quality public programming. Grants to support basic operations are awarded to organizations of all sizes and disciplines that meet high standards in the artistic quality and merit of their programs and services, level of community involvement, administrative capability and fiscal responsibility.
To qualify, an organization must be incorporated in Connecticut for at least three years, have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, have a clear arts-centric mission, have a 3-year average operating budget of at least $30,000, and a minimum two-year history of public programming.
The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism ("CCT") offers a multi-year funding cycle for GOS. Organizations submit "full" applications once every three years according to discipline. Interim applications are filed in the intervening two years. Organizations eligible to apply for GOS for fiscal year 2011 include current grantees in “Group C” that are now completing a three-year cycle of support, and nonprofit arts organizations in the following categories only:
-
Visual art galleries
-
Art centers offering multi-discipline programs (visual, literary and performing arts)
-
Organizations offering multi-discipline arts education programs
-
Nonprofit presses, or arts organizations focused on literature, including poetry
-
Organizations focused on design arts or media arts
All Group C organizations planning to submit an application for GOS funding for FY11 must file an Intent to Apply by July 22. The application deadline for Group C, and for current grantees in Groups A and B submitting interim applications, is August 12, 2010.
